V60 Filter Coffee

About

The V60 brewing method was developed by the Japanese company Hario, a manufacturer of heat- resistant glassware, kitchenware, and coffee equipment. The name “V60” comes from the 60-degree angle of the cone-shaped dripper, which is a key feature of this brewing method. The concept of pour-over coffee, which is the foundation of the V60 method, has been around for a long time. Pour-over brewing involves manually pouring hot water over coffee grounds, allowing the water to extract the flavors as it drips through a filter into a vessel below. This method is known for its ability to highlight the unique characteristics of different coffee beans and produce a clean, nuanced cup of coffee.

Step 1

Prepare 15 grams of freshly roasted coffee beans and grind them to a medium-fine consistency using a grinder.

Step 2

Place the V60 dripper on top of the coffee mug, insert a paper filter, and rinse the filter with hot water to eliminate paper taste and preheat the dripper and mug. Discard the rinse water.

Step 3

Add the ground coffee to the dripper, ensuring even distribution, and gently tap the dripper to level the coffee bed

Step 4

Start the timer and pour about grams of hot water (around 90°c or 94°C) over the coffee grounds, ensuring full saturation and allowing the coffee to bloom and release trapped gases. Let it bloom for 30 to 45 seconds

Step 5

Pour until 160 grams of water in a slow, circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Maintain a consistent water level without overflowing. This pour should take about 1 minute and 30
to 45 seconds.

Step 6

Pour until 260 grams of water in the same slow, circular motion as before. Aim to finish this pour around 2 minutes and 15 to 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Remember to maintain a consistent water level without overflowing.

Step 7

As the coffee drips into the cup, appreciate the beautiful aroma. Once the dripping stops, remove the V60 dripper from the cup and discard the used coffee grounds and filter. Take a moment to enjoy the flavors and aromas of the freshly brewed coffee using the V60 pour-over method.
